The oldest and most easily recognised breed, the English bulldog is a medium-sized dog with a thick-set body, broad shoulders, sturdy limbs and a short-muzzled, square head.
French Bulldog

The “Frenchie” was developed from the English bulldog. While being as sturdy and compact as its English cousin, the French bulldog sports larger ears and a smaller face.

Meanwhile, across the pond, American bulldogs have the square faces and powerful jaws of their English predecessors. However, these puppies are bigger, more agile, and much healthier than their English and European counterparts.
Temperament And Trainability
Despite its violent origins (see, dog-fighting in 1600s England), admirers of this breed in the 1880s bred out the more vicious qualities to produce the loveable pups we adore today.
The bulldog is known for being incredibly docile, gentle, affectionate, playful, loyal, and highly protective over its family. Despite their bulky build and formidable features, these pups enjoy no greater pleasure than lazy afternoons and a good tummy-rub. While some have been quick to call bulldogs lazy, the truth is that these dogs are just laidback.
This breed is highly adaptable, and its medium size makes it ideal for both apartment lifestyles and the family home. With their laidback nature, they get along with most other breeds, although they may reach the end of their tether with small, all-over-the-place breeds like Chihuahuas.
